The Department of Radiation Medicine at Glen Cove Hospital is a major component of the hospital's Don Monti Cancer Center that offers both radiation oncology and medical oncology services in a comfortable and caring environment. The department is equipped with a dual-energy linear accelerator, a simulator and treatment planning computer systems used to design 3D conformal and IMRT treatments. Team leader Dr. Evelyn Marienberg is a radiation oncologist with advanced training in the use of radiation to treat cancer and other diseases.

Radiation physicists and dosimetrists, professionals with training in medical physics, use specialized computer equipment to determine which treatment technique is best suited to each patient's particular needs. Radiation therapists, who are licensed technologists, deliver the prescribed daily radiation dose and arrange the patient's treatment schedule. Registered nurses with experience in radiation oncology assist patients with any medical problems or questions that arise. They help patients and their families cope with anxieties and address their concerns. Receptionists, secretaries and other clerical personnel within the division of radiation oncology guide the patients through the system.
As part of the North Shore-LIJ Health System’s Don Monti Cancer Center, we work closely with our colleagues in the health system to provide comprehensive cancer care and therapy to our patients. The department operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. Emergency calls are handled after hours and on weekends.
