Welcome to Community House!

We are the substance abuse treatment division of the Department of Psychiatry, Glen Cove Hospital – The Mildred and Frank Feinberg Campus. We are proud to be part of the North Shore-LIJ Health System.

In our 30+ years of service to the community, we have taken great pride in providing quality, comprehensive substance abuse treatment services. Our well-trained, experienced staff members are highly aware that drug abuse and addiction are serious illnesses. But they are equally aware that these illnesses can be effectively treated.

At Community House, you will find no dark predictions as to the “hopelessness” of substance abuse and dependence. On the contrary, we assume from day one that our patients will remain free of drugs and return to a fulfilling life. The road may be difficult, and we understand that there will be ups and downs, but we expect the overall direction to be “up.”

At Community House, we also avoid stigmatizing those with substance abuse and dependence. These are illnesses like any other, and our patients deserve (and receive) the respect due to any patient with any illness.

Finally, we are very aware that substance abuse and dependence is often accompanied by depression, anxiety, and other psychiatric syndromes, as well as general health problems. We will not ignore these co-morbidities, and indeed believe that treatment of these conditions is key to recovery from substance abuse and dependence.

So, once again, welcome! We look forward to working with you to achieve your therapeutic goals.
