Tumor Registry at Glen Cove

The Tumor Registry collects, manages and analyzes information of all patients diagnosed and treated at this facility with malignant neoplasm and/or benign tumor of the brain and central nervous system. The registry at Glen Cove Hospital maintains an electronic database of over 6,000 cases. The data, which includes information of primary site, stage of disease, treatment procedures and current cancer status, is collected and managed by a certified tumor registrar (CTR).

The Tumor Registry is an integral part of the hospital’s cancer program. Glen Cove Hospital's cancer program is accredited by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. In 2006, our program was surveyed by the Commission on Cancer and was awarded with another three-year approval. This indicates that we have established the measures for high-quality cancer care and are providing multidisciplinary, integrated and comprehensive oncology services.

The registry submits newly diagnosed cancer cases to the National Cancer Database (NCDB) annually and to the New York State Department of Health Cancer Registry (NYSCR) monthly. The data submissions by the registries form the foundation of cancer surveillance and control on the federal and state levels. They provide the information that is essential to help policymakers establish laws and regulations that ensure better cancer care and increase funding for cancer research and public education.
