Helping Military Families
Stacy Jankowski, right, of Shirley, NY reads a poem entitled "One Wish" that she dedicated to her father, Army National Guardsman Adam Jankowski, that she wrote during his recent deployment to Afghanistan. Ms. Jankowski was among those participating in a recent meeting held at Fort Totten in Bayside, Queens, NY, to identify ways that community leaders – including educators, healthcare providers, and faith-based, government and business leaders – can work together to enhance the regional response to the needs of military families. The meeting was organized by the North Shore-LIJ Health System's Rosen Family Wellness Center, North Shore-LIJ's Office of Military and Veterans’ Liaison Services, the Bob Woodruff Foundation and the Military Child Education Coalition. Among others participating in the meeting were, from left: Sandra Kaplan, MD, the Rosen Center's medical director; First Lt. Louis Delli-Pizzi of Manhasset, NY, a National Guardsman assigned to the Fighting 69th Infantry in Bay Shore, NY, who returned from Afghanistan in January; and his wife Beth.
