Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine
Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine has opened the first new allopathic medical school established in New York since 1963. Hofstra and North Shore-LIJ have combined their respective strengths and expertise, each sharing responsibility for the medical school's mission and success.
The new medical school combines Hofstra's academic infrastructure and expertise with North Shore-LIJ's clinical and graduate medical education programs. It also incorporates research conducted at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, the research arm of the health system. These components provide the strong foundation for an excellent medical education experience.
According to Michael J. Dowling, President & CEO of North Shore-LIJ, "Not only are we opening our own School of Medicine, but thanks to a highly innovative curriculum, it will transform the education of future physicians by putting students in patient-care settings from day one."
The medical school has started recruiting for its charter class of approximately 40 students to begin in the summer of 2011. For more information and admission requirements, please visit the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine.
