Honoring Your Wishes

Everyone at Southside Hospital is involved in the care of patients choosing bloodless medicine and surgery. The Center for Bloodless Medicine & Surgery takes the following precautions to honor patients' wishes:

  • Southside Hospital's bloodless medicine and surgery program has well-defined and publicized policies.
  • Admissions personnel prominently mark patients' records to indicate they have chosen bloodless medicine and surgery.
  • Patients sign special bloodless medicine and surgery consent forms.
  • Patients wear special bloodless medicine wrist bands.
  • Patients' charts are prominently marked with a bloodless medicine and surgery sticker.
  • The hospital has a panel of doctors trained in bloodless medicine and surgery and its techniques.
  • The laboratory uses blood-saving methods.
  • Operating room personnel are notified when bloodless program patients are scheduled for surgery.
  • Southside Hospital's program has a full-time coordinator available around the clock.
