The North Shore Health System Laboratories are fully licensed and accreditated by the N. Y. State DOH, CLIA, JCAHO, CAP, AABB (Blood Bank) and FDA (Blood Bank).

Services Provided

• Anatomic Pathology - The Division of Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology is a state-of-the-art facility providing full services in Surgical Pathology, Cytopathology, including Surgical and Fine Needle Biopsies (FNA), Automated Immunohistochemistry, Flow Cytometry, (Cell Markers) and Electron Microscopy. The Cell Genetics Laboratory provides Cytogenetics Molecular Oncology testing, and Fluorescent in-situ Hybridization (FISH).
• Clinical Pathology - Our clinical services provided on a 24 hour 7 day basis, include those provided by Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation and Central Processing Laboratories. Other clinical services provided are Virology, and Diagnostic Oncology (Flow Cytometry) testing.
• Blood Bank - Our Blood Bank services all patients of different age groups, from the fetus to the older adult patient. Special services are provided for Oncology, Cardiac Diagnostic and Surgical center, AIDS, Level III Referral center for Perinatal, Neonatal, and Level I Trauma center.

An active donor service operates six days weekly. Collections include whole blood, apheresis platelets and HLA haplotype matched platelets, as well as therapeutic apheresis procedures.

Our Blood Bank supports the Bone Marrow Transplant program for adults and pediatric patients. Specialty products, required for transplant patients, include irradiated, leukocyte reduced, and CMV safe products. Peripheral Blood Stem Cell collections from autologous and homologous donations are provided.

Special transfusion needs, such as coagulation factor concentrates, plasma exchanges for TTP, red cell exchange for sickle cell anemia patients, and plasmapheresis are provided.

• The North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System Laboratories, in close proximity, and in collaboration with our laboratories, provide our patients with Microbiology, Serology, Special Hematology and Special Chemistry testing.
