Raising Awareness and Funds for Breast Cancer
THE BREAST CANCER INITIATIVE FUND
|
Today, more than ever before, community contributions provide an important resource that can help us improve and expand the services we offer to breast cancer patients, and to their families and friends. The Breast Cancer Initiative Fund of the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System is a fund dedicated to breast cancer diagnosis, treatment and support services. |
THE BREAST CANCER INITIATIVE COMMITTEE
The Breast Cancer Initiative Committee is an interdisciplinary leadership group that was formed in 1999 for the purposes of overseeing and directing system wide activities related to the delivery of breast services.
OUR MISSION
Conducting outreach & education for the communities served by North Shore-LIJ Health System
Promoting excellence in the quality of care and service
Improving systems for providing care
Advancing research
Educating physicians and other health professionals
Your support makes these types of
essential projects possible:
Breast Tumor Board
Monthly breast cancer case presentations are teleconferenced throughout the Health System, providing a forum for all physicians who treat breast cancer patients to present their most challenging cases and obtain feedback and opinions from a diverse group of breast cancer specialists. This enables practitioners from nine hospital sites to simultaneously review and discuss the clinical care of selected breast cancer cases.
Promotion of Clinical Research
Breakthrough therapies for breast cancer prevention and treatment can only be proven effective if they are examined in carefully controlled studies in women affected by the disease. In order to make these critically important studies more available to patients, the committee is currently focusing on the education of
breast care providers and assisting them with the clinical trial enrollment process, enabling more women to access these studies.
Breast Cancer Resource Manual
A Breast Cancer Personal Organizer and Resource Guide is currently under development. Designed with the newly diagnosed breast cancer patient in mind, this resource guide will not only be a concise lnformation source, but a hands-on, practical organizer for patients to utilize throughout their course of treatment.
