Great Neck, NY, – The Janet and John Raggio Nephrology Institute’s Terry Tan is one of the recipients of IPRO’s 2009 Quality Awards. The Quality Awards, given annually by IPRO, the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for New York State, recognize health care providers that demonstrate a commitment to improving health care services in the state.
“Over the past seven years the Janet and John Raggio Nephrology Institute of North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, under the direction of program coordinator, Terry Tan, has provided over 400 workshops on chronic kidney disease (CKD), reaching more than 9,500 New York seniors.” says Clare B. Bradley, MD, MPH, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, IPRO. “They have been instrumental in increasing public awareness of CKD and we thank them for their commitment to the health of New Yorkers and their dedication to education and community outreach.”
"The IPRO Award reaffirms the critical role of the Janet and John Raggio Nephrology Institute in heightening awareness of chronic kidney disease (CKD)prevention throughout the communities we serve, and identifying and educating at-risk populations on preserving kidney function and/or preventing CKD," said Michael Dowling, president and chief executive officer of the North Shore-LIJ Health System.
In conferring the award at IPRO’s 25th Annual Membership Meeting on June 2nd, Dr. Bradley noted that Terry Tan and the Janet and John Raggio Nephrology Institute of North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System “are receiving the award because of their dedication to improving care for Medicare beneficiaries; their ongoing commitment to raising public awareness of CKD; and their enthusiastic support and active participation as members of IPRO’s Chronic Kidney Disease Coalition, a statewide group committed to the early identification and treatment of CKD.”

The Janet & John Raggio Nephrology Institute of the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System was established to serve as a center of excellence for all aspects of renal clinical care, as well as education and research. Its Renal Education Program is intended to benefit at-risk patients by providing an understanding of kidney functions, types of kidney disease and the laboratory tests used to measure kidney function. The ultimate goal is to prevent or slow the progression of chronic kidney disease.
