This activity has been developed for physicians, podiatrists, dentists, physician assistants, registered nurses, dental hygienists, licensed practical nurses, special assistants, and optometrists in both clinical and community settings.

Educational Goal

This course will provide the information and documentation needed to fulfill licensure requirements as mandated by New York State Departments of Health and Education.

Learning Objectives

After participating in this activity, participants should be able to:
1.  Describe their professional responsibility of adhering to scientifically accepted infection control measures.
2:  Verbalize how organisms are transmitted in the community and in a healthcare setting.
3:  Describe methods to prevent nosocomial infections.
4:  Demonstrate appropriate selection and use of barriers and personnel protective equipment.
5:  Describe practices for cleaning, disinfection and sterilization of patient care equipment.
6:  Identify measures to prevent and manage infectious diseases in the community and in healthcare workers.


Accreditation

North Shore-LIJ Health System is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide Continuing Medical Education for physicians.

Credit Designation

The North Shore – LIJ Health System designates this Continuing Medical Education activity for a maximum of 2.5 AMA PRA Category I credits TM.   Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity

Method of Physician Participation

To receive credit, the participant must:
1. Review the entire educational activity.
2. Answer at least 80% of the posttest questions correctly.
3. Complete a program evaluation.
4. Download, print and save certificate of completion.
