Institute for Nursing: Bringing Our Nurses Together

Marshalling the talents and energy of our diverse nursing workforce, the Institute for Nursing is structured to bring together nurses on all levels to have a voice in making decisions that improve patient care and create supportive work environments.

The Institute is driven by an advisory group consisting of members of the health system’s Nurse Executive Council, directors of nursing research, nursing education and retention and recruitment, a staff nurse representative from each health system hospital and the deans of nursing schools.

Our advisory group will work closely with existing nursing committees at hospitals throughout the health system to enable the Institute to offer:

  • New professional practice models that can be used across all North Shore-LIJ facilities.
  • Cutting-edge research that will transform the delivery of care and enable nurses to expand their career opportunities.
  • The best nursing continuing education programs in the industry.
  • Nurse-specific management courses through the health system’s Center for Learning and Innovation, including courses for staff nurses who aspire to be managers as well as programs for other levels of managers.
  • Adjunct professorships at area schools of nursing for mentoring and training student nurses.
