Institute for Nursing: Where We're Headed

To build on our accomplishments, the North Shore-LIJ Health System has created the Institute for Nursing, one of only a handful that exist in the nation. The health system strives to be proactive in addressing the current issues facing the nursing industry, including staffing shortages, professional burn out, excessive paperwork and distrust in healthcare. By raising the bar and creating highly professional practice environments, and by taking public positions on a variety of healthcare issues, the Institute for Nursing will help enhance the image of nursing by visibly showcasing nurses as the positive, problem-solving and caring individuals they are.

The Goals of the North-Shore-LIJ Institute for Nursing

  • Creating healthy work environments for nurses;
  • Providing education and workforce development programs;
  • Conducting nursing research and implementing evidenced-based
    practice;
  • Empowering nurses by developing a culture of magnetism throughout
    the health system; and
  • Promoting the findings and accomplishments of nurses through
    publication and public speaking engagements.
