Jeffrey Kraut

Senior Vice President, Strategic Planning and Marketing
North Shore-LIJ Health System

Mr. Kraut coordinates North Shore-LIJ’s strategic planning, marketing and internet activities as well as the development of its network of providers through mergers, acquisitions or affiliated relationships. Prior to the establishment of the health system in 1997, Mr. Kraut served as the vice president for strategic planning, LIJ Medical Center.

Mr. Kraut was formerly the vice president for planning and policy at Downstate Medical Center, and held management consulting positions in the Health Care Strategy Development Group at KPMG Peat Marwick and RMR Health Management Consultants, Inc. In that capacity, he worked on a broad range of strategic, community health and innovative programs for hospitals, insurance companies and related for-profit businesses.

Mr. Kraut currently serves as chairman of the New York State Hospital Review and Planning Council, and as a member of the Long Island Regional Planning Board and the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council. He served as a Regional Advisory Committee member of the New York State Commission on Health Care Facilities in the 21st Century, and is a board member of the Brookville Center for Children’s Services, the Long Island Committee of the Regional Plan Association, Sustainable Long Island and the College of Advisors for ERASE Racism.

Mr. Kraut is a fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine, and serves on various committees of the Greater New York Hospital Association, the Healthcare Association of New York State and American Hospital Association. He is a former president of the New York State Society for Health Planning and was the recipient of its 25th anniversary leadership award. He speaks frequently on the challenges facing healthcare providers, the implications of market forces on strategy development, and the integration of strategic processes into management and governance structures.

Mr. Kraut received a Masters of Business Administration from the Baruch College–Mount Sinai School of Medicine of the City University of New York, and an undergraduate degree from Stony Brook University.
