Kathleen Gallo, RN, PhD, MBA
Senior Vice President and Chief Learning Officer
North Shore-LIJ Health System
As the senior vice president and chief learning officer for the health system, Dr. Gallo is responsible for corporate human resources, the Center for Learning and Innovation, and the Patient Safety Institute. Her responsibilities include the development and implementation of the organizational learning strategy in support of the health system’s business imperatives, the development of a new HR architecture that advances the role of human resources into a strategic business partner for the health system, and the development of a clinical simulation center for the health system.
Dr. Gallo held several previous positions at North Shore-LIJ, including director, emergency medicine and vice president, emergency medical services.
Dr. Gallo has more than 25 years of experience in emergency nursing, comprising a variety of clinical and administrative roles in tertiary care hospitals on Long Island.
She held several regional and national seats for emergency medical services and emergency nursing, and has written several articles on trauma and nursing research. Dr. Gallo speaks regularly on such topics as Creating a World-Class Learning Organization, Building Performance Teams, Leadership Development, Negotiation and Conflict Resolution, Weapons of Mass Destruction, Hospital Emergency Preparedness and Qualitative Research.
Dr. Gallo received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of the State of New York, a Master of Science (Nursing) degree from Stony Brook University, and a PhD in nursing and a Masters in Business Administration from Adelphi University.
