MANHASSET, NEW YORK—The air was charged with energy and enthusiasm on October 7, 2009, when nearly 200 prominent business leaders representing corporations across Long Island and Manhattan gathered for an exciting purpose: to learn more about the North Shore-LIJ Health System’s plans to establish the Katz Women’s Hospital at both LIJ Medical Center in New Hyde Park and North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) in Manhasset, as well as create a Women’s Health Institute to coordinate women’s programs and services across the entire health system.

“The North Shore-LIJ Health System is making an historic investment,” said Saul B. Katz, Chairman of North Shore-LIJ Board of Trustees. “It’s an investment that will enable North Shore-LIJ to provide targeted healthcare solutions tailored specifically for women throughout every stage of their lives, from birth onward.”

The Corporate Breakfast, which took place within the Goldman International Conference Center at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research in Manhasset, was hosted by the Commerce & Industry Council and sponsored by TD Bank. Following an hour-long networking opportunity, several North Shore-LIJ ambassadors provided the rapt audience with an overview of the progress being made on the Katz Women’s Hospital and throughout the health system: Mr. Katz; Michael J. Dowling, President and CEO; Neeta Shah, MD, Vice President of Women’s Health Services; and Kevin J. Tracey, MD, Director and Chief Executive of The Feinstein Institute. Edward Travaglianti, President of TD Bank, served as keynote speaker for the event and offered inspirational words of wisdom about the importance of corporate partnerships and giving back to the community.

The Commerce & Industry Council (CIC) was established in 1990 to support the state-of-the-art healthcare programs and services provided by NSUH, including the hospital’s Emergency Department. Headed by Co-Chairs Roger Blumencranz, Jeanine Bondi, Ron Horowitz and Barry Swidler, CIC has now committed to raising significant funds for the Katz Women’s Hospital and Women’s Health Institute.
