David Bernstein, MD, FACP, FACG, — Chief
Dr. David Bernstein graduated from the Johns Hopkins University. He received his MD from SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine. He completed his medical residency at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, New York. He completed his training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Miami/ Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida under the direction of Dr. Eugene Schiff.
Dr. Bernstein is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He has held academic positions at the University of Miami, SUNY Stony Brook and is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine at the New York University School of Medicine. He is currently the Director of Hepatology at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Hospital. Dr. Bernstein is a past president of the New York Gastroenterological Association and the treasurer of the Bockus International Society of Gastroenterology.
Dr. Bernstein is internationally recognized as an authority in diseases of the liver. He has participated in more than 50 large clinical and investigator initiated research trials. Dr. Bernstein has published more the 50 papers in peer reviewed journals and delivered more than 100 invited academic lectures on five continents. He has received numerous awards including the prestigious Sheila Sherlock Prize for Clinical Research, and the American Liver Foundation Physician of the Year in 2001.
Dr. Bernstein is often quoted as an expert in liver disease in numerous publications in the United States, Canada and Europe. Dr. Bernstein is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and the American College of Physicians. He serves as a member of numerous scientific committees within these and many other organizations. He is a reviewer for numerous peer review journals in the United States and Europe. Dr. Bernstein is the author of the column "Liver Lines," which is published twice a month in all newspapers published by Anton Press.

Simmy Bank, MD
Dr. Simmy Bank completed his medical school at the University of Capetown Medical School. His medical, surgical and gastroenterological training was completed at the Groote Schuur Hospital in Capetown, South Africa. He is a Professor of Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He was the Chief of Gastroenterology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center from 1979-2005 and is currently the Emeritus Chief. Dr. Bank is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and a Master of the American College of Gastroenterology.
Dr. Bank has received numerous awards including the Distinguished Clinician Award of the American Gastroenterological Association. He is the author of more than 500 book chapters, journal articles and review articles. His main interests are pancreatic disease and gastroesophageal disease. He continues to be active in the training of gastroenterology fellows and in stimulating fellows to do research in gastroenterology.
Neeraj Kaushik, MD

Neeraj Kaushik, MD attended medical school at the University of Delhi in India where he graduated at the top of his class. He completed his internal medicine residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. During his gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center he served a two year tenure as the chief GI fellow. He completed his fellowship including advanced training in endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) in 2005. He was an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh before moving to NY and joining the full time GI faculty at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Hospitals.
Dr. Kaushik's clinical interests focus on advanced endoscopy, including endoscopic ultrasound, EUS-guided fine needle aspiration and injection (EUS-FNA, EUS-FNI), EUS assisted endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), treatment of complicated esophageal strictures, and palliative stenting for GI malignancies. His research interests focus on pancreatic diseases and clinical applications of EUS. Dr. Kaushik investigated the role of EUS to diagnose malignant ascites and presented his findings at prestigious local and national meetings including DDW and ASGE young investigators' conference. He is the lead author on an article related to this subject. Other projects have looked at EUS staging of esophageal cancer and the use of EUS-FNA combined with molecular diagnostics to characterize pancreatic cystic lesions and neoplasms. The findings have been presented at prestigious national meetings.
Dr. Kaushik has co-authored several articles relating to EUS and its applications. During his fellowship, Dr. Kaushik was also awarded a pilot/feasibility grant by the UPMC Obesity and Nutrition Research Center (ONRC) for his research project, Enteral Feeding and Pancreatic Rest. These studies investigated pancreatic enzyme synthesis and secretion in response to enteral and parenteral feeding. The award-winning results of his investigations were presented at prestigious local and national meetings and published in Pancreas. He has co-authored several articles on the subject of nutrition in acute pancreatitis.
Dr. Kaushik is currently the Director of EUS and Endoscopy. He is fluent in Hindi.

Bethany DeVito, MD
Dr. Bethany DeVito graduated Cum Laude from the SUNY Stony Brook. She received her MD degree from the State University of New York at Syracuse and completed her Internal Medicine residency in St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center in New York City. She completed her Gastroenterology fellowship at New York Hospital Medical Center in Queens and elected to return to St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City for one year to further her training in therapeutic biliary endoscopy under the supervision of Dr. David Zimmon.
Dr. DeVito is Board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. Dr. De Vito spent six years in a private practice in Port Jefferson, New York. During that time she gave lectures to different healthcare professionals in the community to raise their awareness about different issues in Gastroenterology, especially women's issues in GI. Since September 2004, she has held an academic position at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset. Dr. DeVito's primary interests include general gastroenterology and colon cancer screening, with a special interest in Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Capsule Endoscopy. Dr. DeVito is the director of the Women's GI Health Center and the Video Capsule Endoscopy Center.

Ronald Greenberg, MD
Dr. Ronald Greenberg completed medical school at Hahnemann Medical College and his medical residency at Albany Medical Center. He completed a Clinical Gastroenterology Fellowship and Research Fellowship at St. Luke's Roosevelt Medical Hospital Center. He is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, American College of Gastroenterology, American College of Physicians, Long Island Gastroenterological Association and Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.
Dr. Greenberg is the author of numerous book chapters and more than twenty original journal articles. Dr. Greenberg practices general gastroenterology. His particular interests include inflammatory bowel disease, diarrheal diseases, celiac sprue, small bowel disease, viral hepatitis and general endoscopy.
Edna Khodadadian, MD

Dr. Edna Khodadadian graduated Magna Cum Laude from Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education at City College. She received her MD degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, NY. She completed her internal medicine residency at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY. She completed her training in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, NY. She trained in Endoscopic Ultrasound at St. Orsola in Bologna, Italy, under the supervision of Professor Giancarlo Caletti. She completed training in ERCP at Policlinico Gemelli in Rome under the supervision of Professor Guido Costamagna.
Dr. Khodadadian is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. She was in private practice at Island Gastroenterology in West Islip, New York. Since July 2004, she has held an academic position at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY.
She has participated in research projects and has published several abstracts and papers. As a fellow and as an attending, she delivered numerous academic lectures, including medical grand round presentation at Good Samaritan Hospital in 2002. She received an Appreciation for Voluntary Teaching Contribution Award from Winthrop University Hospital in 2000. Her primary interests include general gastroenterology, with a special interest in Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD).
Dr. Khodadadian is fluent in Hebrew, Farsi and Italian.

Tai-Ping Lee, MD
Dr. Tai-Ping Lee completed medical school in Taiwan and her medical residency and Gastroenterology fellowship at Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center. She has joined our staff from the Veteran's Hospital in Northport where she was the Director of Endoscopy. Dr. Lee's main interests include general Gastroenterology and Hepatology, esophageal diseases including GERD, esophageal motility, colon cancer screening, women's health issues in Gastroenterology, endoscopic ultrasound, endoscopic treatment of reflux disease and Barrett's esophagus and small bowel capsule endoscopy. Dr. Lee is currently the Director of the Esophageal Disease and Motility Center.
Dr. Lee is fluent in Taiwanese, Mandarin and Hakka.

Dr. Kostas Sideridis
Kostas Sideridis is a graduate of our fellowship program. He completed his residency in 2003 at Winthrop University Hospital. Dr. Sideridis has a general interest in general gastroenterology with a special interest in pancreatitis, irritable bowl syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease.
Dr. Sideridas was named Fellow of the Year in 2003 at LIJ. He has written abstracts and articles concerning pancreatitis, GERD and therapeutic endoscopy.
Dr. Sideridis is fluent in Greek and Spanish.

Bernard Stark, MD
Dr. Bernard Stark completed his medical school at New York University School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at New York University Hospital and the New York Veterans Administration Medial Center. He is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Dr. Stark is a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Gastroenterology Association, American College of Physicians and the New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is the author of numerous book chapters, original articles and review articles. Dr. Stark's main interests are advanced therapeutic endoscopy including advanced endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), esophageal stent placement and intraluminal stent placement.

Steven S. Yang, MD
Prior to joining LIJ, Dr. Steven Yang was an attending physician at Nassau University Medical Center after completing his fellowship at the Medical Center. He obtained his medical education at SUNY Stony Brook and completed his residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
Dr. Yang has several publications including abstracts and poster presentations that were recognized during our national meetings. Dr. Yang has particular interests in general and therapeutic endoscopies including ERCP. He is fluent in Korean.
