Patient Education and Calendar of Events at LIJ

The cardiac services education and wellness programs strive to assist patients and their families in making lifestyle changes, which lead

to overall health and well-being. Education of patients and families is fundamental to our commitment of providing high quality cardiac patient care. Focal points of the cardiac services program are patient and community education. Educational and community health promotion programs are offered to patients, family and staff. Our programs are searchable online.

  • Patient and Family Education includes: written educational materials and brochures, provided during hospitalization and upon discharge, educational bins in each of the patient care areas, classes on various health promotion topics, as well as quarterly Heart Club and support group meetings.
  • Community Health Promotion and Education programs, in collaboration with the Department of Professional and Public Education, include: Health Heart Screenings each February, Community Screenings in collaboration with the American Heart Association, and a Heart Healthy School Program for school children in grades K-8. It is our goal to improve cardiac patient health outcomes by promoting healthy behaviors, and supporting interactive communication that allows the patient and family to be involved in their care and care decisions.
