What to Bring
Your childbirth or Lamaze instructor will discuss items you may wish to bring with you to use during labor. In addition, we encourage you to pack a still camera (video cameras are not permitted in the delivery room) to take memorable first photographs of your baby. Please bring slippers so that you may walk safely before and after delivery.
What to bring with you for your postpartum (after delivery) hospital stay:
- soap, lotion
- toothbrush, toothpaste
- comb, brush, shampoo
- electric blow-dryer (must be safety-checked prior to use)
- deodorant
- nightgown
- support or nursing bra
- bathrobe
- slippers (no flip-flops, please, as they become slippery when wet and may result in a fall)
- underpants
- phone numbers of those you wish to call
- calling card or credit card number
- pen or pencil
In a separate bag, you should bring:
- a complete outfit to wear home
- a complete outfit for your newborn to wear home (be sure to include an undershirt, socks, an outfit, sweater, hat, receiving blanket and cover blanket if the weather is cold)
Newborn linen is provided for in-hospital use only. Our staff will make sure you always have an adequate supply of clean linen for your baby.
Still cameras are permitted in the Labor and Delivery Unit. Video cameras may be used on the postpartum floor. Picture-taking through the nursery window is not permitted.
Please note that the use of cellular phones is not permitted anywhere in the hospital because they may interfere with electronic monitoring equipment.
