Joint Reconstruction

Joint reconstruction of the hip, knee and shoulder are performed at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Arthritis of the hip and knee is a progressive disease and a common complaint of patients. Arthritis may be managed either surgically or non-surgically depending on the extent of pain and loss of function. Total hip arthroplasty, total knee arthroplasty and total shoulder arthroplasty are the replacement of the particular joint which is affected. Joint arthroplasty is considered highly effective and safe. The type of prosthesis selected is based on the patient’s lifestyle and age. Depending on the extent of the arthritis, some patients are eligible for unicompartmental surgery in which only one part of the joint is replaced. Joint reconstructive surgery has become very commonplace today and allows patients to return to a normal active lifestyle.

When revision surgery is required, many physicians in the surrounding area refer their patients to our very qualified and competent surgeons who perform complex revision and state of the art reconstructive joint procedures.
