The Lions Eye Bank for Long Island was established in 1986 as a not for profit organization dedicated to fighting corneal blindness. As part of the North Shore-LIJ Health System, the Lions Eye Bank coordinates all of the activities necessary to recover, process, medically screen, and distribute donated eye tissue for transplantation, research, and medical education.

The Lions Eye Bank for Long Island is licensed by the New York State Department of Health, registered with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and fully accredited by the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA).

The Lions Eye Bank is supported enthusiastically by the Lions Clubs of District 20-K2 (Nassau), 20-S (Suffolk), and 20-K1 (Brooklyn and Queens).  The Lions Clubs throughout Nassau, Suffolk, Brooklyn and Queens are essential to the Eye Bank’s mission by helping to donate state of the art laboratory equipment and funding the Eye Bank’s ever widening public awareness campaigns. The Lions members are also instrumental in volunteering to transport the precious Gift of Sight to its necessary destination.
