LIJ and the Zucker Hillside Hospital Health Sciences Libraries

The Health Sciences Library is an integrated system that includes libraries at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center and The Zucker Hillside Hospitals. All employees of Long Island Jewish Medical Center, attending physicians on staff, students participating in current clinical rotations, and authorized volunteers are eligible for library privileges. The library is open to the public for use of on-site collections and access to consumer health online and print resources including authoritative consumer health web sites.

The LIJ Library subscribes to over 600 online or print journals and maintains an on-site collection of 20,000 books and journal volumes covering all medical specialties, nursing, and health care administration. The Zucker Hillside Library specializes in psychiatry, and psychology, with over 140 journal subscriptions and a collection of 16,000 books and journal volumes.

The Mission of the Health Sciences Library is to manage and provide effective access to knowledge based information and information resources which support excellence in patient care, patient education, teaching/learning, and research conducted at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center and all its affiliations.

EMIL (Electronic Medical Information Library)

EMIL is the acronym for the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System Electronic Medical Information Library. Accessible through HealthPort, EMIL enables staff throughout the health system to access a comprehensive suite of databases, e-journals, e-textbooks and reference services, both on campus and remotely, from one single platform. The EMIL initiative is funded by an Information Systems grant from the National Library of Medicine.

LIJ   8:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.        Monday-Friday
Zucker Hillside 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.        Monday-Friday  

Location

The LIJ Library is located on the C level of the Schwartz Research Building which is directly connected to the main hospital building on the circular driveway.

The Zucker Hillside Library is located on the 1st floor of the Littauer Building, about three blocks from the LIJ Library.
