Mario Nozzolillo

My fellowship has given me the in-depth experience and management access I sought but could not find elsewhere. I was given the opportunity to explore all facets of hospital management, ranging from operations to finance, to human resources growth and development.

At North Shore University Hospital, I was intimately involved with the chief financial officer in revenue projection, full-time-employee analysis and financial statement review. Without question, the theories I learned in graduate school were translated into practice. Senior leaders valued my opinion and decision making ability. I attended several senior management meetings and was able to observe the intricacies of the decision-making process from a leadership standpoint. It was refreshing to see that I was truly viewed as an asset to the organization as a whole.

During my rotation at Forest Hills Hospital, I became involved with the day-to-day operations of running a hospital from a management perspective. I worked on a wide range of projects, ranging from telecommunications initiatives to Environment of Care rounds to supply chain. Our paging initiative yielded significant cost savings that will truly have an impact on the bottom line. The CEO, CFO and chief administrative officer were readily accessible and available to guide me every step of the way. While at Forest Hills, I was given the latitude to interact with every hospital director throughout the hospital to better comprehend their daily functions and where they felt there were opportunities for improvement.
