Southside Hospital's medical oncologists care for their patients in a special hospital unit staffed by oncology-certified nurses who have special training in cancer care and patient education. Hospital patients can draw on the services of interdisciplinary teams from radiology, radiation oncology, surgery, the pain management program, social work, nutrition and rehabilitation. They also may be eligible to take part in the National Cancer Institute clinical trials that are available through North Shore-LIJ. Patients can receive chemotherapy in the hospital or in their physicians' private offices.
