Medical Staff Society Honors Dr. Scherr
MANHASSET, NY -- The North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) Medical Staff Society recently presented Lawrence Scherr, MD, with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his role in establishing and shaping the Manhasset institution. Dr. Scherr was the chair of medicine for 43 years at NSUH. He also served as the dean of Cornell Medical College and the president of the American College of Physicians, among many other influential roles at NSUH and the North Shore-LIJ Health System before his retirement in 2010.
“In recognition of your lifetime commitment to the highest standards of the medical profession, the mentoring of countless colleagues, exceptional devotion that made patients feel that their welfare was all that mattered, and for your role in establishing North Shore University Hospital as a preeminent institution, with grateful appreciation from the medical staff officers and your fellow physicians at North Shore,” read the plaque. Going forward, the NSUH Medical Staff Society will present the award to an outstanding physician annually in Dr. Scherr’s honor.
