Services Provided
Psychiatry is a 20-bed acute short-term unit located on the first floor, North Wing.
Patient Population
Both male and female patients from late adolescence through those over age 65 presenting with a primary psychiatric diagnosis.
Conditions and Diagnoses Treated
- Major depression with/without psychotic features
- Bipolar Effective Disorder (Manic-Depressive Disorder)
- Schizophrenia
- Schizoaffective Disorder
- Atypical psychosis
- Organic mental disorders with psychosis/dementia
- Borderline Personality Disorder (if a Primary Axis I Psychiatric Disorder is also present)
- Dementia due to Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease or other causes (if an acute psychiatric or behavioral problem is present).
Treatments and Activities Performed
Patient assessment, monitoring vital signs, constant observation, support group, discharge planning, individual psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, multidisciplinary treatment planning, activities of daily living, medication administration, patient/family education, diabetic tracking, glucose monitoring, skin assessment, recreation therapy, milieu therapy, occupational therapy, maintenance of legal status, electroconvulsive treatment (inpatient and outpatient), restraint and seclusion, and the management of suicidal and violent patients.
