Message From the Chief Academic Officer
Welcome to the Educational Programs of The North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System; the premier health network of Long Island, Queens and Staten Island. Our Health System includes 15 hospitals, making it the third largest secular, not-for-profit health system in the United States. We are also one of the largest clinical medical educational institutions in the country, responsible for over 1,200 residents and fellows and 90 graduate medical education training programs, representing the entire spectrum of training opportunities from each of the core disciplines through the entire range of the most advanced fellowships.
In addition, the health system supports hundreds of students from our affiliated medical schools on required clerkships, elective clinical rotations and experiences in basic and clinical research.
We also own and operate The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research. Its programs are world renowned and are home to many of our trainees as they pursue research opportunities in preparation for fellowships and academic careers.
Perhaps most importantly, we are in the process of opening our own medical school in partnership with Hofstra University. The Hofstra University–North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine is on target to accept our inaugural class for September of 2011.
This is truly an exciting time in our health system and we invite you to browse for more detailed information on all of our programs and opportunities. Welcome.
