Migen Mak, RN
When Migen Mak’s sister delivered at North Shore University Hospital, it was the birth of Migen’s career at North Shore University Hospital as well. Impressed by the compassion, generosity and professionalism exhibited by the nurses toward patients, she applied to be a part of the neurosurgery operating room team.
Migen has been a nurse for 12 years, five of those at North Shore University Hospital. She’s found nursing in the operating room much different than her previous experience as a floor nurse. But she says that she quickly acclimated with the help of the nurses, surgeons and anesthesiologists who helped teach and guide her through the learning stages.
Migen says that at North Shore University Hospital she’s received a broadened view of the field of nursing. That includes an expanded realization of the many roles a nurse can take on and the strength of an interdisciplinary team that makes each and every staff member feel like an integral part of the hospital. She says as both a nurse and a staff member, she’s proud to say that she works at North Shore University Hospital.
