GREAT NECK, NY -- The North Shore-LIJ Health System and Element115 today announced the launch of a mobile version of the health system’s corporate website -- www.northshorelij.com -- utilizing the web technology solution of Element115. The mobile web site, offered as part of Element115’s healthcare technology platform, delivers a greatly improved experience for website visitors using a mobile device such as a Blackberry, iPhone or Palm.

The new platform on www.northshorelij.com enables mobile web users to quickly retrieve address information, phone numbers, directions and maps to North Shore-LIJ’s 14 hospitals and other facilities throughout the New York area, as well as phone numbers and addresses for thousands of doctors affiliated with the health system.

There were 59 million US mobile web users in April 2009, according to Nielsen Mobile. “Smart phone access to the web has not always been the best user experience,” said Venkatesh Korla, president of Element115, which has been partnering with North Shore-LIJ on web solutions since November 2008. “If a site is designed for the mobile device visitor, the content is more focused and much easier to navigate.”

“If you’re in transit and you need to find the nearest emergency room for yourself or a loved one, accessing online information quickly can save precious time,” said Jeffrey Kraut, senior vice president of strategic planning and marketing at North Shore-LIJ. “This new web platform enables Blackberry or iPhone users to rapidly key in information and easily retrieve the location and phone numbers of North Shore-LIJ’s 14 hospitals, without the long delays that typically occur when you try to open web sites on mobile devices.”

The mobile web site that went live this week is the latest feature of North Shore-LIJ’s new corporate website launched in September 2009 on Element115 eHealth Accelerator and FatWire Content Server content management platform. North Shore-LIJ’s in-house web development team worked with Element115 and its mobile platform technology to deliver the new corporate web site. “The mobile site is a natural extension of our web presence and supports our web strategy of improving the healthcare consumer experience,” added Mr. Kraut.
