Collaboration to Focus on Quality Initiatives to Enhance Senior Healthcare

WOODSIDE, NY– Seeking to enhance healthcare for seniors in Queens, the North Shore-LIJ Health System today announced the signing of a clinical affiliation agreement with Queens Boulevard Extended Care Facility, Inc. (QBECF).

“This new affiliation strengthens our working relationship with Queens Boulevard Extended Care Facility by implementing a variety of clinical and educational initiatives involving geriatric medicine, allowing us to deliver quality healthcare services to better serve the growing needs of older adults in Queens and the region,” said Michael Dowling, president and chief executive officer of the North Shore-LIJ Health System.

 “As one of the nation’s largest healthcare providers, the North Shore-LIJ Health System will collaborate with Queens Boulevard Extended Care Facility on quality initiatives to enhance its clinical programs and enhance geriatric medical resident education where needed,” said Mr. Dowling.

Among the services that North Shore-LIJ will provide under the new agreement are:  rapid intervention and referrals to physicians and other healthcare specialists, support on clinical care and quality management issues, home care services, hospice care services, and palliative care/end-of-life care.

Dr. Jonathan Mawere, DPT, MD, Queens Boulevard Extended Care Facility’s Administrator and Chief Operating Officer, said that the affiliation further supports QBECF’s commitment to the provision of quality healthcare. “The affiliation reflects the nation’s clarion call for an enhanced health care delivery system built on an efficient and effective exchange of information and evidence-based practice leading to improved patient outcomes.”
