NSLIJ Elective Clerkship Application

Thank you for your interest in the Elective Clerkship programs at the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System. The Health System has an extensive academic program with over 90 ACGME approved residency programs and many fourth-year elective opportunities.

All medical students wishing to participate in our programs must submit a completed NSLIJ Elective Clerkship Application package along with your Curriculum Vitae and Dean’s Letter of good standing. Once accepted the medical clearance form and other required documents will be requested.  Please read the provided application directions carefully.

In order to provide students with a worthwhile experience, we limit the number of students on service. In view of this, you are encouraged to list two alternative time slots for an elective. For the same reason, you are also encouraged to submit your application as far in advance as possible, but no later than 90 days prior to your requested rotation date, to allow time to process your request.

Completed applications should be sent to the Student Coordinator of the department you wish to apply. A complete student coordinator directory is included. Notice of the status of your application will be sent to you within 4 weeks of the receipt of the application. Please keep a copy of all documents submitted.

Off-shore medical school students or students not enrolled in LCME/AOA approved programs should refer to the student coordinator directory for departments accepting applications. In addition to the application package, if accepted, off-shore medical students are required to read the Regulations of the New York State Department of Education and submit a New York State Letter of Eligibility
