Network Emergency Management

Being Prepared

The health system’s ability to handle any emergency rests on its ability to provide a coordinated and consolidated response. The North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System’s Network Emergency Management program oversees critical components of that response.

Comprehensive Emergency Management

Network Emergency Management strives to strengthen the four basic phases of emergency management in and out of the Health System, including:

  • Mitigation
  • Preparedness
  • Response
  • Recovery

Training

The Center for Emergency Medical Services is a leading provider of emergency management training in the region. Staff instructors hold certifications and accreditations from HazMat for Healthcare, as well as the following governmental agencies:

  • US Department of Defense
  • US Department of Justice
  • Federal Emergency Management Administration
  • Emergency Management Institute
  • New York State Department of Health
  • Environment Protection Agency
  • International Association of Firefighters

Our managers and instructors are consummate emergency services professionals, some of whom have worked extensively with the FBI, the New York City Police Department, and various emergency management agencies.

Community Interaction

Network Emergency Management continues to lead healthcare disaster preparedness in the region. Through the establishment of the Regional Health Care Emergency Management Training Center, the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System educates healthcare practitioners in and out of the System in emergency preparedness.
