Neurological Surgery
The Department of Neurosurgery provides a full spectrum of neurosurgical operative procedures including all aspects of cranial, spinal and cerebrovascular surgery at the North Shore University Hospital. There are 15 board certified and three board eligible neurosurgeons on the staff, in addition to a support staff of eleven neurosurgical physician's assistants, one rotating neurosurgical osteopathic resident and intraoperative electrophysiologic monitoring technicians.
The Department of Neurosurgery performs approximately 1200 procedures per year. In 1998, the Department published more than 30 articles, which were contributed to major neurosurgical, neurology, neuroradiology and orthopedic publications. Several textbook chapters were also written and submitted by invitation to various editors and publishers.
Many national and international meetings were attended including hands-on workshops and a significant number of presentations were given in various subspecialty areas of expertise within the Department of Neurosurgery.
