Neuroscience Research Center

The Neuroscience Research Center provides investigators from a variety of scientific fields and backgrounds the opportunity to work on understanding the neural mechanisms of brain function in health and disease, from normal to treated and untreated neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric conditions. A major focus of the center is the study of mechanisms that underlie neural recuperation following different types of brain injury including brain injury such as neurodegeneration, genetic disorders, stroke, and trauma.

Increasing attention is being paid to neuropharmacology, genetics and behavioral manifestations of neural function. Investigators studying neuropsychiatric illnesses from different perspectives are incorporating both basic science and clinical experience into approaches designed to unravel the causes of such diseases from genetic influences to environmental factors. Ongoing efforts to integrate brain imaging, neurophysiology, neurochemistry, and cognitive neuroscience hold considerable promise for the development of new pharmacological and surgical approaches for treating these conditions. Research within this center is generating important information towards the development of new pharmacological and surgical treatments.
