ISLIP, NY – The North Shore-LIJ Health System today announced the opening of a free-standing diagnostic imaging center and a women’s health imaging center in Islip. Occupying two floors of the 10,000-square foot complex, the combined imaging center includes the latest in high quality resolution, low-dose radiation technology for disciplines such as: cardiology, neurology, orthopedics and breast imaging, among others.

The North Shore-LIJ Imaging Center at Great South Bay, located on the first floor of the 620 Main Street facility, provides diagnostic imaging services such as 3T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and a 64-slice computed tomography (CT) system, offering the highest- resolution images of the human body. The second floor of the building is home to the Bohlsen Women’s Imaging Center, which provides specialized screenings for women, including a comprehensive breast center, mammography and ultrasound services, stereotactic biopsy and bone density screenings.

“When you come to have a study performed at our new facility you are not only being provided with state of the art equipment in a beautiful site, but with access to the largest pool of fellowship trained physicians on Long Island,” said Cynthia Kubala, vice president of imaging services for the North Shore-LIJ Health System. “We have interpreting physicians in all sub-specialties with exceptional training in areas such as musculoskeletal, mammography and head and neck imaging. It’s important to remember that it matters who interprets your images. You should pick your interpreting radiologist as carefully as you choose your surgeon.”

Ms. Kubala explained that the imaging center which assists nearby Southside Hospital in Bay Shore in providing comprehensive, state-of-the-art care to patients utilizes a Picture Archiving System (PACS). “When we take an image, it can be sent for interpretation to every possible sub-specialty in radiology,” she said. Those specialists include the largest fellowship-trained group of physicians in musculoskeletal and head and neck imaging on Long Island.

“We are very proud to have this opportunity to expand the services of the North Shore-LIJ Radiology Department to the Great South Bay area,” said Lawrence Davis, MD, North Shore-LIJ’s interim chairman of radiology. “We look forward to working seamlessly with Southside Hospital to support the local physician community by providing top quality diagnostic services to them and assuring a positive experience for the patients they entrust to our care. “
