Library Access

A North Shore-LIJ Health System ID is required to use the Daniel Carroll Payson Medical Library (DCPML).  Certain services are offered only to NSUH, Glen Cove, CECR, NS-LIJ System, and NS-LIJ Research Institute registered users. WebCat, the DCPML's online catalog, lists all holdings and may be accessed on-site at http://medlib.nshs.edu. For remote access, use HealthPort, then QuickLinks, then the Electronic Medical Information Library (EMIL).

Orientation and Instruction

Orientation to the DCPML and its’ services is available upon request.  It can be customized to individual specifications.  DCPML staff teaches classes on a variety of topics including, but not limited to PUBMed, CINAHL, GoogleScholar, and Information Literacy.  Classes are announced via institutional distribution lists.

Collection

3,200 Monographs
9,500 E-journals
800 E-books

Circulation

Monographs, serials, and media circulate for one week, with three renewals possible.  Late fees are:  $.25/day for monographs and serials, $.50/day for media, and $1.00/day for interlibrary loans.

Searching the Literature

Hundreds of biomedical, scientific, psychological, and business databases are available for those who require comprehensive literature reviews or research on non-medical topics.  Please contact the library at 562-4324 for more information

Interlibrary Loans (ILLs)

Materials not available in the DCPML are obtainable through ILL.  Check WebCat to confirm that the item(s) are not held here.  Then photocopy, if possible, the citations and give or email (ill@nshs.edu) requests to the staff.

Audiovisual and Conference Scheduling

Audiovisual (AV) equipment is available for campus-wide use.  Contact the library at 562-4768 for assistance.

The library staff schedules meetings in the Rust Auditorium and Conference Rooms.  As rooms are much in demand, please send your reservations as soon as possible to ConfSched NSUH on global email.

Computers

Computers equipped with appropriate software are available in the DCPML for database searching, personal work, Internet browsing, and e-mail.
