North Shore University Hospital Opens New Retail Pharmacy
MANHASSET, NY – Patients and employees at North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) are enjoying the convenience and services of a new retail pharmacy that recently opened in the hospital’s main lobby.
Vivo Health Pharmacy, the first retail drug store owned by the North Shore-LIJ Health System, features a complete inventory of medications, over-the-counter drugs and health and wellness supplies, all at competitive prices. The 1,100 square-foot store is stocked with everything from shampoo and toiletries, to vitamins, supplements, smoking cessation products and medical equipment, such as diabetes glucose monitors. The pharmacy also is equipped with a computer kiosk, where consumers can order items that don’t fit inside the store, like a motorized wheelchair.
Partnering with Amerisource Bergen Corporate, based in Valley Forge, PA, Vivo Health Pharmacy is staffed by experienced, customer service-oriented pharmacists and associates. A private consultation room is also available for pharmacists and patients to discuss any issues.
“Vivo Health Pharmacy is an exciting new business venture that pushes the level of patient care and service to new heights,” said Michael Dowling, president and chief executive officer of the North Shore-LIJ Health System. “Many patients leaving the hospital often have several prescriptions to fill. The onsite retail pharmacy offers a convenient option for patients, visitors and staff. It’s also a natural extension of the continuum of care we provide to our patients.”
“The launch of Vivo Health Pharmacy is part of an integrated effort by North Shore-LIJ to provide new services that help our community members lead a healthy life,” said Richard Bennett, managing director of business development for Vivo Health. The Vivo Health brand includes an online consumer health and wellness service; a free frequent user rewards card for shopping discounts, planned renovation of the hospitals’ gift shops to be named “marketplaces,” and entertaining and informative television programs to air in waiting rooms throughout the health system’s hospitals and outpatient facilities.
“With Vivo Health Pharmacy and other related services, we are trying to be proactive and anticipate our patients and employees needs with the type of information, products and health services they might find useful, and to provide unparalleled service every step of the way,” said Mr. Bennett.
For employees of the health system, Vivo Health Pharmacy fills 90-day prescriptions onsite for the same price as mail order service. The pharmacy at NSUH is open Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., 300 Community Drive. For more information, call (516) 562-VIVO (8486) or online at: www.vivohealth.com/pharmacy.
