North Shore-LIJ Dept. of Surgery Opens New Offices in Lake Success

The departments of surgery at Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Medical Center and North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) have been combined at a new state-of-the-art faculty practice office complex at 1999 Marcus Avenue in Lake Success. This new outpatient facility brings together the full depth and breadth of surgeons from both hospitals, combining both hospitals' divisions of general surgery and vascular surgery.

Celebrating the opening of the new faculty practice office of the North Shore-LIJ Department of Surgery in Lake Success were, from left:T.S. Ravikumar, MD, chairman of surgery; Susan Fox, North Shore-LIJ's senior vice president of clinical services and faculty practice; Michael Dowling, the North Shore-LIJ Health System's president and CEO; and Lawrence Smith, MD, the health system's chief medical officer.

Totaling 17,600 square feet, the new center was built at a cost of approximately $2.5 million. The building is now home to 12 permanent North Shore-LIJ faculty members and approximately 18 visiting physicians from various multidisciplinary services. "The new facility provides a greater level of integration among specialties and subspecialties, allowing us to foster and improve the quality of the services we provide, thus enhancing the patient experience," said T.S. Ravikumar, MD, chairman of surgery at NSUH and LIJ. In addition to the divisions of general and vascular surgery, the building is home to eight other programs:

  • The Section of Breast Surgery
  • The Bariatric Surgery Program
  • The Section of Laparoscopy/Minimally Invasive Surgery
  • The North Shore-LIJ Vein Center
  • The North Shore-LIJ Vascular Access Program
  • The Non-Invasive Vascular Laboratory
  • The North Shore-LIJ Hernia Center
  • The North Shore-LIJ Comprehensive Wound Care Center

The Wound Care Center, the first of its kind for the two flagship hospitals of the North Shore-LIJ Health System, is a state-of-the art center that offers a comprehensive outpatient wound treatment and management program with a multi-disciplinary approach to wound healing.
