The North Shore-LIJ Health System announced today that it is partnering with Nassau County to distribute free H1N1 vaccines for the next 16-20 weeks. Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) will also administer the vaccine on the county’s behalf at its hospital, health clinics and at A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility.

North Shore-LIJ’s first flu clinics will be held Sunday, November 22 and November 29, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Town of North Hempstead’s Clinton Martin Park, 1650 Marcus Avenue, New Hyde Park, as well as Tuesday, November 24, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Town of Hempstead’s Levittown Hall, 201 Levittown Parkway, Hicksville.
 
North Shore-LIJ will post December dates and locations for other vaccination clinics in the towns of Hempstead, North Hempstead and Oyster Bay at www.northshorelij.com/flu. Sites will be chosen based on their proximity to public transportation, to ensure that county residents have access to a nearby location.
 
The clinics will be staffed by medical personnel, hearing impaired and multilingual translators, emergency medical technicians, an ambulance and security. 

The H1N1 vaccine will be distributed to individuals who meet the criteria established by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, with a focus on:

• Pregnant women;
•  People who live with or take care of infants younger than six months, including parents, siblings and day care providers;
• Healthcare and emergency medical services personnel;
•  People six months through 24 years of age; and
•  People age 25 through 64 with a chronic illness or weakened immune system.
