North Shore-LIJ's Bernard Rosof, MD, Elected Chairman of the Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement
The North Shore-Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Health System today announced that Bernard M. Rosof, MD, MACP, has been elected chairman of the Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement. The Consortium is an American Medical Association (AMA) - convened organization committed to enhancing quality of care and patient safety by taking the lead in the development, testing and maintenance of evidence-based clinical performance measures and measurement resources for physicians.
Dr. Rosof's three-year term is effective immediately. The election of Dr. Rosof, who serves as North Shore-LIJ senior vice president of corporate relations and health affairs, indicates the integral role of health systems in establishing national standards for measuring and improving the performance of healthcare providers.
"Through his involvement with numerous prestigious medical societies and healthcare organizations, Dr. Rosof has been making valuable contributions to strengthening the quality of care in our nation's hospitals," said Michael J. Dowling, president and chief executive officer of the North Shore-LIJ Health System. "His election as chairman of the Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement also serves to elevate the stature of the North Shore-LIJ Health System and enables us to raise the bar higher for ongoing improvements that benefit our patients."
Dr. Rosof has helped strengthen North Shore-LIJ's relationships with physician-led organizations across the country. He has achieved national recognition in the areas of health quality and performance measurement through his work and practices. He is chairman emeritus of the Board of Regents of the American College of Physicians and past president of the American Society of Internal Medicine.
He was appointed to chair the New York State Task Force on Clinical Guidelines and Medical Technology Assessment and recently chaired the NYS Committee on Quality Assurance in Office Based Surgery.
The Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement is comprised of over 100 national medical specialties and state medical societies; the Council of Medical Specialty Societies; the American Board of Medical Specialties and its member-boards; experts in technology and data collection; the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality; and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
