Nuclear Medicine

The internationally recognized NSLIJHS Division of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, the largest and most advanced on Long Island, offers outstanding expertise in the full array of diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures. At each of our state-of-the-art facilities, an expert and caring team of physicians, physicists, chemists, technologists, and support staff provides the latest in diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine services. With cutting edge equipment including multi-slice PET/CT and SPECT/CT, we can evaluate a broad range of medical conditions, including tumors, infections, and various disorders of the kidneys and bladder, thyroid and parathyroid glands, lungs, bones, gastrointestinal tract, and central nervous system. Our specialist physicians, all of whom are certified by the American Board of Nuclear Medicine, work closely with colleagues from other specialties to provide integrated and expert care for our patients.

As part of our academic mission, we proudly train nuclear medicine and diagnostic radiology residents, as well as medical students. We also are actively engaged in scientific investigations. Our current research focuses on advancing PET/CT and SPECT/CT for diagnosing infectious disorders, and improving preoperative parathyroid gland localization for patients undergoing parathyroid surgery. We also are involved in a joint project with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine investigating hepatocyte (liver cell) transplantation.
