Obstetrics and Gynecology at Plainview Hospital

Plainview Hospital's staff delivers high-quality care to obstetric patients using a comprehensive, interdisciplinary, family-centered approach throughout the perinatal continuum. Family-centered care can be defined as safe, quality health care that focuses on – and adapts to – both the physical and psychosocial needs of the new mother and neonate. The emphasis is on the provision of maternal-newborn care that fosters the family unit.

The primary focus of care at Plainview Hospital encompasses all obstetric patients from the antepartum through the postpartum period.

Education begins in the physician's office and continues throughout the antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum period. Obstetric nurses, who are certified as childbirth educators, provide preparation for childbirth classes weekly for the benefit of our patients. Couples are encouraged to attend childbirth, breast feeding, parenting and baby care classes, which are all available at the Plainview facility.

Breast feeding is encouraged and patients receive a high quality of support throughout their stay.

Weekly breast feeding support group meetings are held regularly and valuable information is shared and exchanged by mothers with our lactation consultant by their sides.

The patient population in the Perinatal Unit comprises antepartum patients necessitating acute hospital services for obstetrical complications, medical or surgical interventions and postpartum patients. Antepartum admission diagnosis may include, but is not limited to: incomplete abortion, ectopic pregnancy, preterm labor, renal colic, hyperemesis, gestational diabetes and pregnancy-induced hypertenstion. Our Perinatal Unit is fully equipped to care for mothers and infants greater than 34 weeks of gestation.

We have 24/7 dedicated obstetrical anesthesia, 24/7 neonatalogy coverage, 24/7 certified nurse midwife coverage and 24/7 perinatalogy consultation availability.

The department consistently and extremely enjoys high patient satisfaction.

We are proud of our unit and welcome telephone calls and visits if you desire further information.
