Skills Objectives |
- Formulate a plan for neonates with problems such as:
- Respiratory distress
- Cyanosis
- Gastroesophageal reflux
- Jaundice
- Bilious emesis
- Bloody diarrhea
- Abdominal distension
- Abdominal wall defects
- Perform or assist in all major surgical procedures performed on the pediatric surgical service.
- Conduct comprehensive preoperative evaluation and postoperative management for all neonates and pediatric patients.
- Provide emergency burn patient evaluation and monitoring. Determine the level of care and need for transfer to a burn facility.
- Implement resuscitation protocols, manage systemic effects of burns, diagnose and treat inhalation injury.
- Evaluate and manage electric and chemical burns.
- Perform burns escharotomy.
- Evaluate potential candidates for living-related and cadaveric organ transplantation including.
- Participate in the pre and postoperative management of the transplanted patient.
- Participate in the perioperative management of immunosuppressive drug therapy.
- Identify signs of organ rejection.
- Participate in the preparation and handling of multiple organ harvest in the brain dead patient.
- Be able to perform a comprehensive vascular consult.
- Apply the principles of ultrasonography and duplex, and CT scanning to diagnose:

- Perform AV access surgery.

- Perform or assist in upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures including banding of varices, ERCPs, stenting of common bile and pancreatic ducts.
