Positive Outreach with Integrated Resources
P.O.W.I.R.
Positive Outreach With Integrated Resources for individuals infected or affected by HIV/AIDS spanning all age groups.
The P.O.W.I.R program provides options for children, teens and women who are HIV+, or at risk, and are not in care. Our goal is to improve access to medical care, research, and support services throughout Queens and Nassau Counties.
The P.O.W.I.R. program has an on-site community liaison, outreach social worker and peer educator to assist with navigating a comprehensive system of care.
We offer a variety of primary, psychosocial and support services in each of our departments servicing people living with HIV/AIDS.
- The Center for AIDS Research and Treatment (CART) - The adult HIV program is located within the Division of Infectious Diseases at North Shore University Hospital. It is the largest New York State Designated HIV/AIDS Center on Long Island.
- The Youth Specialized Care Center (YSCC) and Pediatric Center of Excellence (PCE) - The youth and teen HIV program is located in the Division of Allergy/Immunology and provides comprehensive medical and psychosocial care to children and adolescents who are HIV infected from infancy to age 24.
- High Risk Pregnancy Clinic in the Division of Maternal and Fetal Medicine (MFM) - Provides comprehensive prenatal medical care for pregnant teens, young adults and women with high risk pregnancies and offer a wide range of prenatal support and informational services.
