The RAP Program is dedicated to the prevention of serious psychological disturbances in teenagers (ages 12-18 years old). A major focus of the program is the recognition of early warning signs suggesting that a serious illness has begun to develop. The goal is to begin treatment sufficiently early to stop the progression of illness. Common early signals of increasing psychological difficulties include a sudden deterioration of functioning in school and increasing social withdrawal, characterized by decreased interaction with friends and increased time alone at home. Other indications of risk are mistrustfulness, odd or unusual ideas or behavior or thought problems. Treatment includes individual, group and family therapy and pharmacotherapy. |
