The Feinstein Recruitment Registry
The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, part of the North Shore-LIJ Health System, conducts clinical research studies throughout the health system’s many resources. To support this research, The Feinstein Institute has a clinical research participant registry that helps match people who would like to participate in clinical research with North Shore LIJ researchers. Volunteers of any age, race, ethnicity or health status are invited to join. Please call 1-877-GO-NSLIJ (1-877-466-7545) to learn more!

What is the Recruitment Registry?
The Recruitment Registry’s goal is to bring together people who would like to participate in clinical research studies and researchers who are looking for people to participate in their studies. It is a free and secure registry that has been developed by The Feinstein Institute. The purpose is to involve you in the mission of helping today’s studies make a real difference for everyone’s health in the future.

Why is the Recruitment Registry important?
The Recruitment Registry is important because advances in the diagnosis and treatment of human disease are, in part, the result of clinical research. To be successful, clinical research needs people to participate so a researcher can test a theory or hypothesis about an important medical question. Often, many clinical research studies end prior to finding an answer because there are too few volunteers. Also, there are many people who want to join clinical research studies, but do not know how to do so. The Recruitment Registry is an important resource to help you find out about studies of interest for which you or a family member may be qualified.

Is a clinical research study the right thing for me?
Anyone can join the Recruitment Registry. Different people have different reasons for wanting to get involved in clinical research. Many studies are looking for healthy people of all ages, while some are looking for people with particular health conditions. The Recruitment Registry can help you find any type of clinical research study, ranging from surveys you can do at home to a clinical trial that may involve taking a study drug and traveling to the researcher’s location. You are able to decide which studies are right for you.

What does it cost to join the Recruitment Registry?
The Recruitment Registry is a not-for-profit activity and is free to join.

Who can join?
Volunteers of any age, race, ethnicity or health status are welcome to join.

What if I do not have a health condition? Can I still join?
Healthy volunteers are vital to clinical research and are encouraged to join.

Are there any risks to joining?
The Recruitment Registry also takes your privacy very seriously. There is a potential risk of loss of confidentiality of your profile information; however, the Recruitment Registry takes many steps to keep your information private, secure and confidential.

What happens once I register?
After you register, your profile will be searchable by researchers who are authorized to use the Recruitment Registry. If a researcher thinks your profile matches their study’s needs, you may be contacted by him/her to give you more information about the study. The choice to participate or not is yours. The Recruitment Registry only helps to connect you with the researcher. If you wish to be removed from the Recruitment Registry, simply contact us and all your identifiable information will be removed and future researchers will not be able to search for you.

What if my contact and/or health information changed?
You can change your profile at any time. You only have to contact the Recruitment Registry to make these changes.

If I join the Recruitment Registry, when will I start to hear from researchers?
The Recruitment Registry cannot guarantee that you will actually be contacted by any researchers, although it is hoped that these contacts will occur.

Do I have to participate in a clinical research study if I join the Recruitment Registry?
No, you will never have to participate in a study. The choice will always be yours.

What if I change my mind about being part of the Recruitment Registry?
You can remove yourself from the Recruitment Registry at any time. Simply contact the Recruitment Registry with your request and all of your identifiable information will be removed. Future researchers will not be able to search for you.
