U.S. News & World Report Ranks Schneider Children’s Hospital
 Among the Nation’s Best in Four Pediatric Specialties

NEW HYDE PARK – U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals” ranks Schneider Children’s Hospital (SCH) among the nation’s top 30 children’s hospitals in the pediatric specialties of: diabetes and endocrinology, digestive disorders, respiratory disorders and urology.
 
 The U.S. News & World Report rankings, now available online and at news stands on July 21, are based on hospitals’ reputation, medical outcomes such as death and infection rates, and care-related indicators such as patient volume, nurse staffing and availability of specialized programs.

 This is the third consecutive year Schneider Children’s Hospital has made the prestigious list, reinforcing its growing reputation as a destination hospital for children across the United States and around the world.  SCH was one of only two hospitals in the state of New York to be listed for those specialties.

 Since the hospital’s opening 26 years ago, the demands for its services have been increasing. To meet the growing healthcare needs of the public, SCH is in the midst of a fundraising campaign to construct a four-story, $132 million Center for Pediatric Medicine.

 The proposed 100,000-square-foot building, to be erected in front of the existing 154-bed hospital, will feature the region’s first dedicated pediatric emergency department; a pediatric imaging center; a 25-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit; and a 25-bed Medical-Surgical Unit.  In addition to the proposed pavilion, construction was recently completed on the first, $23 million phase of the hospital’s rebuilding program, which included a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to care for babies born prematurely, a new pediatric chemotherapy unit that will nearly double the size of what’s currently available for children receiving outpatient cancer care and a four-story, glass-enclosed atrium, to be used as an educational resource.
 
 In addition to its main facility in New Hyde Park, SCH has satellite centers in Bensonhurst and Williamsburg, Brooklyn; Flushing, Queens; and Commack and Hewlett, Long Island; as well as a surgical consultation center in Manhattan.
