Second Annual Brain Aneurysm Awareness Walk to be Held Oct. 2 at Jones Beach
MANHASSET, NY – Join hundreds of individuals in Long Island’s Second Annual Brain Aneurysm Awareness Walk – the largest walk of its kind in the country -- at Jones Beach State Park on Saturday, October 2 to promote awareness, education and raise funds for brain aneurysm research.
Sponsored by the Brain Aneurysm Center of the North Shore-LIJ Health System’s Harvey Cushing Institutes of Neuroscience and The Brain Aneurysm Foundation, the second annual Long Island two-mile walk and four-mile fun run are aimed at increasing public awareness of this life-threatening condition. KJOY of the Long Island Radio Group will provide music, entertainment and giveaways at the event. Registration for the walk begins at 8:30 a.m. at Field 5, 1000 Ocean Parkway, Wantagh. Start time is 10 a.m. The walk will be held rain or shine.
Currently, one in 50 Americans is at risk for harboring a brain aneurysm . This silent killer often presents with no prior symptoms, or the symptoms are ignored or misdiagnosed. The outcomes for patients who suffer rupture are grim; more than 30 percent will die and two-thirds will have varying degrees of disability. The Brain Aneurysm Center, located at North Shore University Hospital (NSUH), offers state-of-the-art diagnosis and multimodality treatments for brain aneurysms —including endovascular coiling, micro-surgical clipping and a variety of adjunctive diagnostic techniques used to improve clinical outcomes for ruptured aneurysms.
Through the Brain Aneurysm Foundation , all funds raised will support essential research that may directly benefit those affected and help to reduce the incidence of ruptured aneurysms. The entry fee is $25 and includes the cost of parking and snacks. Tee-shirts are available on a first-come-first-serve basis.
