Second Annual Joint Women’s Health Symposium
The Suffolk County Bar Association, Suffolk County Women’s Bar Association and the North Shore-LIJ Health System joined together to present the Second Annual Women’s Health Symposium – “The Doctors Are In” to the community. A panel of prominent physicians from the North Shore-LIJ Health System addressed a variety of topics that included Health Literacy, Parkinson Disease, Lupus, Depression and Eating Disorders. Over 50 business and community members participated. Suffolk County Legislator Steven Stern opened the evening’s program.
Panel moderator and speaker, Neeta Shah, MD, FACP, vice president of women’s health services at North Shore-LIJ Health System, worked with Ilene Cooper, Esq., Partner, Farrell Fritz, P.C and president of the Suffolk County Bar Association, and Janessa M. Trotto, President of Suffolk County Women's Bar Association to plan the event, choosing topics that were of great interest to the participants, fulfilling the goal to educate and empower.
When asked why present these types of programs, Dr. Neeta Shah explained “Our physicians and health system are proud to offer symposiums such as these to the community with the hope that participants walk away with new information. I believe that knowledge is power and I want to share that with our community members.”
Due to the success of this program, Ilene Cooper and the Suffolk County Bar Association will begin to plan the Third Annual Women’s Health Symposium for April 2011. Ilene commented “The members of the Suffolk County Bar Association and the Long Island community appreciate the efforts of North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System in bringing women's health issues to the forefront. Dr. Shah and these exceptional doctors are a vital resource. We are grateful to them for the wonderful program they presented.”
