Staten Island University Hospital, Councilman Ignizio, and Richmond County Savings Foundation Announce $4.5 Million Plan for Renovation of South Site
An extensive makeover is planned for University Hospital’s 206-bed South Site. The goal of the yearlong construction project is to reconfigure and update existing space in the facility with state-of-the-art enhancements that will carry the acute care hospital well into the 21st century.
“Renovations are necessary to escalate the quality of care for Staten Island’s growing South Shore communities,” according Anthony C. Ferreri, SIUH president and CEO.
A new and modern 55-bed unit is a redesign of the current space on the hospital’s fourth floor affording patients more privacy and comfort in 11 single-bedded room and 21 double rooms. Rooms in which three patients share a room will become a thing of the past.
A dedicated 26-bed telemetry (monitoring unit) is in store for the third floor along with an update of the existing Alcohol Rehabilitation Unit with a move to second floor.
The final component of this renovation will be the purchase of the South Site’s first MRI for advanced diagnostic imaging capability.
Cesar Claro, executive director of the Richmond County Savings Foundation, Vincent Ignizio, councilman of the 51st District, and hospital leadership including Mr. Ferreri, Ronald J. Mazzucco, Executive Board Chair, Donna Proske, SIUH COO, Theodore Strange, MD, vice president of South Site medical operations and Nicholas Caruselle, executive vice president and South Site administrator will be on hand to discuss the project.
