Stern Family Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation Celebrates 20th Anniversary

July 23, 2009

The North Shore-LIJ Health System and representatives from its long-term care affiliates recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Stern Family Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation (CECR), located on the campus of North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset.  The anniversary coincides with the start of a major renovation project this year that will modernize the 256-bed facility’s resident rooms, nursing stations, day rooms, a gym and the main lobby. Russell Stern, the son of Lou and Harry Stern, the original benefactors of the facility, shared remarks and thanked staff members for two decades of accomplishments and high caliber patient care. The CECR specializes in short-term rehabilitation, skilled nursing and extended care services. From left are: Ralph Nappi, president of North Shore-LIJ Health System Foundation; Maureen McClusky, executive director of the Stern Family CECR; Lou Stern, associate trustee; Jane Stern, Russell Stern, trustee; and Howard Guzik, MD, the CECR’s medical director and chief of North Shore University Hospital’s Division of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine.
